The Sensor we trust

The Sensor used in Covicam is the MLX90640, it utilises an array of 768 (32×24) thermal sensors that can detect temperatures from -40 to 300°C with approximately 1°C accuracy and up to 64FPS!

The applications of this camera are manifold: measure the heat or heat dissipation of devices like CPUs, circuit boards, or electrical appliances; use it to identify thermal inefficiencies in your home, or use it for presence detection to identify bodies in complete darkness. This makes it the ideal instrument for fever detection also. A Signifigant amount of time was invested into researching the best thermal sensor to use and in the end nothing comes close to the performance of the MLX90640.

Powered By Raspberry Pi

An open source and cost effective solution
Independent lens shell

The Thermal sensor is housed externally to prevent any internal heat generated from the Raspberry pi influencing temperature readings.

UV and Moisture resitant shell

Each camera housing has been coated in specialised rubber-based paint. This is to protect the unit from accidental spills, and prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Two Camera Modes

The shell comes with a mounting for a second camera lens, should a user wish to use a regular camera overlay.

zero Shake

This unit has been designed to maintain stability no matter how much motion is involved. This will ensure that all readings are as accurate as humanly possible.

User friendly design

Easily accessible for future modifications

User friendly design

6+ Operational hours on Battery or can be plugged in directly to the mains with the included Adapter

zero Shake

1.4 to 1.5GHz(OC) 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A53 on Mainstream models The Mediacam variant ships with a 1.6 GHz(OC) 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A72 processor

Stay connected

2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless & Bluetooth 4.2 on Covicam and DIY models
2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz Bluetooth 5.0 on Mediacam

Powered by Pi

Powered by a Raspberry Pi 3B+ unit with 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM as a base model Raspberry Pi 4B+ With up to 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM on the Mediacam

Open Source OS

Raspberry Pi OS is a Debian-based operating system for Raspberry Pi. Since 2015, it has been officially provided by the Raspberry Pi Foundation as the primary operating system for the Raspberry Pi family of compact single-board computers

Silent Operation

Full sound deadened for silent use. Fully programmable cooling fan. Default is programmed to only turn on when cpu temperature is greater than 55c. This allows for near silent operation.
