Section 5.2: Conformance Claims
This section of WCAG 2.1 provides guidance for making conformance claims, which are optional but allow organizations to declare their level of compliance publicly.
5.2.1 Required Components
A conformance claim must include the following components:
- Scope: Identify the web page(s) or sections covered by the claim.
- Conformance Level: Specify the level of conformance achieved (A, AA, or AAA).
- Guidelines Version: Indicate the version of WCAG being followed (e.g., WCAG 2.1).
- Accessibility Support: Note any assistive technologies supported.
- Additional Statements: Include any other relevant information (optional).
5.2.2 Example Conformance Claim
Below is an example of a conformance claim:
"This website conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA as of April 2025. The conformance applies to all pages within the domain [example.com]. The site is optimized for compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies. For additional details, contact [example@example.com]."
5.2.3 Notes on Partial Conformance
If a page cannot fully conform due to third-party content, state this explicitly in the conformance claim.
- Example: "The page includes embedded content from third-party services that do not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA."
